Adrienne
(Ariel) Forstner-Barthell M.D..
I was born in San
Francisco, CA but have lived all over the United States in pursuit
of my medical degree, finally settling in the sunny and friendly
state of Arizona. Due to a love of writing and literature, I
obtained a Bachelors of Arts in English from Wellesley College, with
a minor in biology. I completed medical school in chilly Minnesota,
at the Mayo Clinic, and got my first taste of Arizona with a
residency in General Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. It
was during this time that I was introduced to the exciting and
challenging world of colon and rectal surgery. I finished a
fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Colon and Rectal
Clinic of Orlando in 2006, and returned here to Phoenix where I
founded the Colon and Rectal Center of Arizona with Dr. McConnell.
Currently I remain in partnership with Dr. Debora McClary, who
joined me in practice in 2008. I have also recently been appointed
to the Chair of the Cancer Committee at Banner Thunderbird Hospital,
which oversees all cancer-related activities at the Hospital.
I am excited to be
providing colonoscopies for the patients of Thunderbird Internal
Medicine. I find that being a colon and rectal surgeon allows me to
deal compassionately with a diversity of problems and interventions:
ranging from hemorrhoids to cancer and from preventative
colonoscopies to surgery for recurrent cancer. I specialize in
minimally invasive approaches, and pioneered an incision less
technique to removal of rectal masses here in the Phoenix Valley.

My time outside of
work is spent between singing at my church, hiking, traveling, and
attempting to keep my pets happy.
